Mervyn Jacob

Mervyn has lived and worked in Hong Kong since 1989. He worked in Price Waterhouse in Dublin where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant, and in Sydney Australia before moving to Hong Kong. He worked in the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) network for 38 years, retired from PwC Hong Kong in June 2020 after 25 years as a partner of the firm and now acts as a part-time adviser to companies in Hong Kong. 

During his PwC career, Mervyn worked with a broad range of clients in different industries. In Hong Kong, he had responsibility for some of the firm’s largest financial services clients in the region and held several roles, including Financial Services Leader of the Hong Kong and mainland China firm for seven years. He spent considerable time in China working with Chinese banks as they reformed and came to the market. He also served on various regulatory committees, including the Hong Kong Deposit Taking Companies Association and the Process Review Committee for the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.

A graduate of Trinity College Dublin, (B.B.S), he is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (CAI) and a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA). 

Mervyn is a Past President of the Irish Business Forum of Hong Kong (IBF) which subsequently became the Irish Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. He was on the inaugural committee of the IBF which was set up in 1998 serving as Treasurer from 1999 to 2000 and as President from 2001 to 2003.
